This was my first car and was in Tucson Az were I lived. My mother had paid $600.00 for it. The gentleman that owned it previously allowed my mother to make $100.00 monthly payments and on the 6th month he gave her the title. she gave it to me for my 16th birthday. It did not have the grille, just the center "job rated" part. It was in black primer but had never been hit. The wood in the bed had been removed and and a sheet of steel placed on top.
At 17 I started my career in Auto Body repair. My 53 was my practice dummy of sorts. I had lowered her, chopped her top 5 1/2" , French in the headlamps. Shaved front and rear bumpers. Removed the tail lamps and installed tear drop 1934 ford tail lamps in the rear fenders. All of this as a 43 year old talking now regret doing. But their is no reversing the chopped off. So I'm just going to go with it. I left my 53 in Tucson with my mother 23 years ago. Parked her in the back and turned off the key and moved to Wisconsin. I expected my mother to sell her and I told her to many times over the years. But she kept saying it's not in the way and someday you will want her back.
Oct 2015 my mother passed on and she was right, I did want that 53 back. More the ever now, so at 10:30 am today she rolled up to the front door of my Body Shop and found a place in on of my stalls. I'm happy to have her back and had a hard time working today. I found my self just staring at her and thanking my mom in my head over and over.
