I found a picture of this truck posted on Flickr. The people who were hosting the pictures just took a random picture of this truck while on a hiking trip in the area. I emailed them and asked them where the truck was at and if they had any idea who owned it? They told me where the truck was at but had no clue as to who owned the truck, it was just sitting in the woods off the side of a hiking trail. After some investigation I discovered it most likely belonged to the Historical Preservation Society of Glen Alpine Springs, California. After some more investigating I found a phone number for the board of directors for the HPS of Glen Alpine Springs. I called the phone number I found listed for them and left a friendly voice message. That was in the fall of 2007.Fast forward early spring 2008 I got a phone call out of the blue one day from a gentleman who has a Dodge truck that I had inquired about. Being that I had inquired about several other old Dodge trucks of interest in the meantime I really had no clue as to which Dodge truck he was talking about. He then apologized for not getting back to me sooner he had been out of the country on business for almost six months. He gave me a little more information and then it hit me like a ton of bricks....Oh! the Brown 1958 W300 Dodge Power Wagon in Glen Alpine Springs, California! Now he had my complete undivided attention. I asked him a few questions about the truck, which he answered, and then I asked him if it was for sale? He said there would have to be a board meeting to see if the truck could be sold. I asked him when the next board meeting was and he said not for another three months. The suspense just about killed me. Three months later he called me and said they voted unanimously to sell the truck. At this time he also disclosed to me the amount they voted to sell the truck for. He asked me if I wanted to make a counter offer but that I would have to wait another three months for another board meeting. I told him NO! I was more than willing to pay the price they voted to sell it for. Without the wife's permission I immediately started planning a trip to California to take possession of the Big Brown Beauty.Early June of 2008 I had to obtain a permit from the Forest Service to legally drive on the Forest Service road where the truck was located. I then finally found myself standing next to my new pride and joy! The truck had been used around the Historical Society to maintain the property and move different materials around in the summer months. I was told it had not been driven in almost two years. I brought a brand new battery and 5 gallons of gas with me. The truck started right up like it had just been parked earlier that morning; no smoke, no noises, it ran like a top. I drove the W300 down the Forest Service road to where my goose neck trailer was parked and then I had to hike back to where I parked my 1993 Dodge. Then I drove my 1993 Dodge back down to the trailer and my new W300. I hooked and loaded everything up and was ready for the trip back home to Colorado.
